What is Social Media?

I just saw a presentation which says “Social Media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio.” I don’t like that definition. My definition is “Social Media is when the creation and distribution of content, which used to be handled by institutions or corporations, in handled by individuals, instead.” What do you think?
